Discover effectiveness in your seat

Success in the saddle doesn't depend on the amount of time you spend riding; it depends upon the quality of your riding. And the quality of your riding is highly dependent on your physical and mental well-being.

If developing a positive, happy, and productive relationship between you and your horse is more important than winning medals or jumping higher, then I can help.

Lets work together with your horse to help him understand where you want to him to go and how to have him move in a more balanced manner.

How I work

Sitting properly on a horse is much more difficult than most people imagine. Riding is a unique sport, because it involves two athletes that must move together harmoniously to ensure comfort for both parties.

The best riders are able to appear almost motionless whilst their horse performs underneath them. This harmonious picture comes down to the way the rider uses their bodies to move in unison with the horse.

I help riders focus on improving their position using Mary Wanless mind-based approaches combined with classical and natural principles.

Our current knowledge of the biomechanics of the horse-rider interaction is vastly different to fifty years ago. I believe we can use this information to enhance communication between horses and humans around the world.

Incorporating Play

Using Ride with Your Mind learning theories and biomechanics, I help riders work at their own pace to achieve their goals. And I make it fun!

When we go to work every day, we do so with a very different mindset than when we go to play.  Work may drag, but we go through the motions anyway. Then we might play over the weekends because that is enjoyable, it’s lighthearted, and it’s fun.

When your horse goes into the arena, if you don’t make it fun, it drags for him or her too. He doesn’t dream of working on half passes, or flying changes - he’d much rather be playing in the paddock with his friends or enjoying a trot through the forest with you.

Make it fun

If you enter the arena with the mindset of work, your horse loses his “joie de vivre” just as quickly as you do driving to work on Monday morning.

Play on the other-hand can help release endorphins and dopamine and stimulate creativity. It can ward off disease, improve memory and boost energy.

If you can explore a mindset of play with your horse, he will become your dancing partner, and not your subordinate. Riding should be fun!
