Clicker Training
This is a method of training the horse, usually from the ground. As the horse performs what is expected of him, a sound is made using a small plastic box. (Think child’s toy cricket sound). This is a bridge – the horse learns to associate this click with a food reward.
This works with amazing results when training a behavior such as fear of clipping, fear of farrier, refusing to stand etc. Horses can also be trained to perform tricks using a clicker, such as picking something up, shaking hands etc.
